Cases 3 and 4
Case 3
1. If I were to be starting a diet, I would be looking for an solution to an extended problem. The problem for me would be that I'm overweight and need to diet and exercise and am looking for a plan to make it easier and help me in my goals. I would look at all the information possible from these sources and also ask my friends and family if they have any personal experience with any of the programs. This would help my decision as to which plan I would go with.
2. Each of the companies uses a different variance on the same type of idea. Limit caloric intake and exercise when possible to lose weight. They have all been proven effective in their own way, so the value that they build is largely in their marketing and what endorsements they can brand for themselves.
3. Determinant attributes for the three companies would be Meal availability, exercise required, advice of friends and family, and for me, the men's program.

4. Jenny Craig and Weight watchers both have excellent meal programs, however they have less of a workout plan with them which can make them a bit less effective than a good workout regimen with the diet. If they were to incorporate a better workout plan with the diet, they would be able to increase their customer satisfaction with more immediate and guaranteed results.
5. The biggest factor in the decision making process is almost always recognition. A consumer will not consume if they cannot justify a need for the product or service. In the case of diet programs, that is a recognition that the consumer needs and wants to lose weight for any given reason. Without that recognition, the consumer will have no need or reason to purchase a diet plan.
Case 4
1. There are many ways that firms could interact with UPS. Any business who has a worldwide shipping need, customer service need, product repair need, or even storage need can utilize UPS for these services. A firm would recognize their need for a service and then specify the product that they need. After that, they would request a proposal and then analyze, negotiate, and select their proposal prior to specifying the order and finalizing the order contract.
2. UPS has provided a greater value through its other services, not just shipping. A great example of that is from the case study that provides information that UPS can actually receive, repair, and return Toshiba computers to consumers without Toshiba even touching the computer. That is an excellent way for Toshiba to reduce their overhead operating costs on repairs if they can contract it out and focus on R&D for new computers instead.
