Comprehensive Case Study

Section 1      AutoTrader.com is a website that has been used as a marketplace for new and used cars available to dealers, auctions, and private party sellers.  The marketing research for Autotrader.com was used to show traffic trends and legitimate buyers and sellers of vehicles on the website.  This research was then used to go to larger dealers and vehicle manufacturers to show autotrader as a legitimate business venture and a good spot to not only buy and sell, but advertise for a manufacturers vehicles.  Dealers would then pay to advertise their vehicles on the website which is mutually beneficial for the dealer and the website.  The more dealers advertise on the website, the more people go to the website for trusted dealers and deals on vehicles which increases the views for the website and the business for the dealers.        Autotrader collected massive amounts of data through surveys of dealers and customers to deter...

Regression Analysis

The regression analysis that I completed was based on a 5 week month of sales for an individual Best Buy store.  The base dependent variable is the traffic and close rate.  The more traffic there is generally the lower the actual close rate, but there are certainly anomalies where there is a higher close rate with higher traffic.  This could be attributed to a major launch of a new product or service that drives both traffic and sales.  The spreadsheet of sales and close rate for the 5 week month as well as the regression analysis are posted to google docs for which there is a link below.      You can see evidence in the spreadsheet that the busiest days are generally Friday and Saturday.  Sunday does occasionally lack some of the sales as it is a day when the store is open for a shorter period of time, but still allows for heavy traffic as it is a day that many people have off and are able to shop as they are not working them...

Week 6 discussion

6.1 1.  http://www.npr.org/sections/alltechconsidered/2016/12/02/504162008/for-advertisers-fake-news-is-not-the-biggest-problem 2. A hypothesis is a supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation.  A hypothesis i this article is that advertisers would not want to be associated with internet ads on pages that are considered extremist or fake news either far left or right on the political spectrum. 3. Independent variables are variables that can change regardless of other variables.  Dependent variables will change only if another variable that it depends on changes.  In this article, independent variables are advertisements on websites as they will be out on websites regardless.  The dependent variable however is the advertiser's willingness to put an ad on an extreme web page. 4. The conclusion that websites using bots to increase their web traffic and increase advertising based on the...

Discussion post 4

1. The top 5 countries to which Maine exports are Canada, Germany, China, Malaysia, and Japan.  This is not surprising as there is very easy access for trade of goods to Canada based on proximity, Germany and Japan are two of the largest growing business countries globally, and China and Malaysia are some of the largest importers and exporters of goods.  As Germany continues to grow as a cornerstone of international business, I would believe that they are among our most important trade partners moving forward. 2. The top 5 PRIZM groups in Windham, ME are Fast Track Families (Upscale Middle Age Family Mix), New Homesteaders (Upscale younger Mostly w/ Kids), Pickup Patriarchs (Upscale Older Mostly w/o Kids), White Picket Fences (Midscale Younger Family Mix), and Hometown Retired (Midscale Older Mostly w/o Kids.  I am not too familiar with Windham as a community as I have not lived here very long and havent really gotten involved in community events, however most of what I ...

Cases 3 and 4

Case 3 1. If I were to be starting a diet, I would be looking for an solution to an extended problem.  The problem for me would be that I'm overweight and need to diet and exercise and am looking for a plan to make it easier and help me in my goals.  I would look at all the information possible from these sources and also ask my friends and family if they have any personal experience with any of the programs.  This would help my decision as to which plan I would go with. 2. Each of the companies uses a different variance on the same type of idea.  Limit caloric intake and exercise when possible to lose weight.  They have all been proven effective in their own way, so the value that they build is largely in their marketing and what endorsements they can brand for themselves. 3. Determinant attributes for the three companies would be Meal availability, exercise required, advice of friends and family, and for me, the men's program. 4. Jenny Craig and Weight...

US Cell Phone Carriers

Image
The perceptual map here displays the coverage reliability and cost of Unlimited Talk, Text, and Data (TTD) for the 5 major carriers in the US.  The cost is based on single line cost assuming no other carrier discounts or installment billing contracts or enhanced line access fees due to subsidization of the device being used. As you can see in the perceptual map, the provider who has the greatest coverage across all of the US is Verizon, and is still a bit more affordable for a single line plan of unlimited data than is AT&T who is their next closest competitor for coverage reliability.  T-Mobile and Sprint are able to provide their unlimited service cheaper than Verizon and AT&T largely because they rely heavily on the infrastructure of their bandwidth competition.  That is to say that because Sprint is a CDMA network, it is able to use Verizon's CDMA signal towers to provide a roaming signal to many of their customers without the need to put up their own towers...
